ABOUT

Tyler James Coon (born September 5, 1986), best known as Tyco, is an American drummer and session musician.

Tyco was born and raised in Atlanta, GA where he first began playing percussion at the age of 12 in his middle school's concert band. He received his first drum set from his father as a Christmas gift during his first year of high school. Tyco was a member of his high school's drumline and jazz band, as well as various concert bands and percussion ensembles. After high school, he attended the United States Air Force Academy and the Georgia Institute of Technology before deciding to pursue music full time.

From an early age, Tyco was exposed to oldies and classic rock by his parents, and various 80s and 90s rock groups by his older sister, though his tastes have continued to expand into many other genres. He counts the Rolling Stones, the Eagles, John Mayer, Pearl Jam, the Counting Crows, and Dream Theater among some of his favorite bands and artists.

Tyco's professional career as a drummer did not begin until after graduating from high school when his former schoolmate, JD Gibbs, asked him to join his group, Harp. Soon after, Tyco met local singer/songwriter Bria Kam with whom he played for several years before combining his two endeavors into one group called Fracture. The band recorded their debut EP at Southern Tracks Studios (renown for recording many major acts including Bruce Springsteen and Aerosmith) in Atlanta, GA with Producer Tom Tapley. Currently, Tyco is collaborating with others for several upcoming projects.

Embodying what can be described best as a knack for musicality paired with an inate sense of rhythm, Tyco calls the throne of his drum set "home." He cites Steve Jordan, Jonathan Moffett, Dave Grohl, Taylor Hawkins, and Mike Portnoy as some of his influences.

Tyco has been playing Yamaha Drums and Sabian Cymbals exclusively since he first started drumming. His setup includes:

Yamaha Stage Custom Advantage Shells (22" bass, 13" TT, 16" FT)

Yamaha Mike Bordin Signature Snare Drum (14"x6.5" Copper Shell)
